U.S. is First! (In Fatness)

Hippocrates once said: “ Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Now, food is causing the number one health problem in America.

Obese people die 8-10 years sooner than those of normal-weight, similar to smokers, and they are more likely to develop diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Obesity is a burden on health systems, with healthcare expenditure for an obese person at least 25% higher than for someone of normal weight.

Changes in food supply and eating habits, combined with a dramatic fall in physical activity, have made obesity a global epidemic. A new study shows
  • 1 in 2 adults are currently overweight
  • 1 in 6 is obese
  • Rates are highest in the U.S. and Mexico and lowest in Japan and Korea, but have been growing virtually everywhere
  • Children have not been spared, with up to 1 in 3 currently overweight
The good news? We can change all of that! Think of food as fuel for your body. You wouldn’t put contaminated gasoline into your vehicle, would you? Eating healthier, exercising regularly and consuming natural health vitamins and supplements will not only make you feel and look better, but it will actually improve many aspects of your life.

As a side note, every Tuesday night I can’t wait to watch the television show “Biggest Loser” on NBC. I think it is a great wake-up call to all of us about the impact of obesity on people’s lives. If you’re looking for motivation, this show will definitely get you going!
