Supplements Trending Right Now Explained for Beginners

Just starting your supplement journey? Wondering what the most popular supplements are to try? Here’s your quick guide to trending supplements that are just right for beginners like you.

Why These Supplements Are Trending

When we refer to trending supplements, we mean popular ones that are generating a lot of attention across social media, in wellness communities or in clinical trials. While trending is not the same as being essential for everyone, these supplements are certainly a good place to start for beginners and offer a range of important benefits to health and wellness. Recognizing which supplements are trending is great, but understanding what they do is also very important when it comes to deciding which might be right for you.

Let’s look at some and consider the benefits they have to offer.

Ashwagandha: Trending for Stress Support in a Busy World

One supplement that’s trending right now is the humble herb known as ashwagandha. Traditionally used for a variety of health benefits, ashwagandha is popular among those looking for natural ways to manage daily stress and support a calmer, more positive mood.1 An adaptogen, ashwagandha may support stress resilience by aiding in the body’s response to stressors (such as promoting healthy cortisol levels)1 and, by promoting a healthy outlook, this ancient ally can help you enjoy more peaceful days and nights. For those thinking of adding ashwagandha to their routine, remember to start out slow and gentle and pay attention to how your body feels and reacts. Bear in mind that, as with most herbal supplements, ashwagandha will need some time to “load” in your system before you begin to notice its full benefits.1

Creatine: Trending Beyond Fitness

Another trending supplement is creatine—and not just among those who enjoy weight lifting. The benefits of creatine for brain health and daily energy production are becoming increasingly evident in emerging research. When used consistently and correctly, creatine can support faster recovery after workouts and can help build lean muscle in the process, but it has also been linked to enhanced focus and memory support.2 Of particular note is the benefits creatine can offer for menopausal women. These can include improving cognitive function and supporting mental clarity during times of stress, in addition to promoting the preservation of muscle mass over time.3

Magnesium: Trending for Calm and Sleep Support

When it comes to trending supplements, no discussion would be complete without magnesium. This essential mineral is a perennial favorite, especially for those seeking muscle comfort and better sleep. This is due to magnesium’s relaxing effect on muscle fibers—which not only increases comfort but can support restful sleep.4 Additionally, magnesium has been linked to improved cognitive functions like memory and focus. Among the many varieties of magnesium supplements available today, magnesium glycinate is a highly bioavailable chelated form that’s recognized for how easily the body can absorb and benefit from the mineral. Another form to consider is magnesium L-threonate. This form is also easily metabolized and has been linked to improved sleep and enhanced cognitive function during waking hours.5

Probiotics: Trending for Digestive & Mood Support

The probiotics trend has stood the test of time, only growing stronger as research continues to reveal additional benefits delivered by these helpful bacteria. Although the specific wellness benefits offered vary somewhat between different strains of probiotics, they’re generally known to lend powerful support for a balanced microbiome in the gut.6 This in turn supports overall digestive health while also promoting immune function. Another layer of support comes in the form of the gut-brain connection. Probiotics have been associated with promoting this function, an important factor in supporting a positive mood and clearer cognitive health.7 Each individual’s body may react differently at first, so be sure to take it easy in the beginning and see how you feel as you integrate probiotics into your routine.

Collagen Peptides: Trending for Skin, Joints and More

The benefits offered by collagen peptides make it clear why this supplement is trending. Collagen peptides are essentially an easily absorbed form of the protein broken down to a smaller form for easier assimilation. Your body produces its own collagen, but this production begins to decrease over time. A positive way to promote healthy aging is by using collagen peptides to support skin elasticity, in addition to stronger hair and nails. Additionally, research has shown that taking collagen peptides can support connective tissue health and enhance joint comfort and recovery.8 As with many supplements, staying consistent is key for these kinds of benefits.

What a Trending Supplement Is (And Isn’t)

Identifying which supplements are trending and how they can benefit you is important, especially for beginners. But it’s also important to remember that while a supplement may generate a lot of interest, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn't also consider your own personal goals and needs. This collection of supplements is more of a starting point meant to inspire you to consider some of the many potent supplements that offer positive help along life’s journey.

Above all, remember that supplements are a part of the whole: lifestyle, fitness, activity and diet. If there are some that pique your interest, be sure to discuss with your doctor, and then reach out—our wellness advocates would be glad to help you find the supplements that are just right.
