Super K from Life Extension® helps maintain the body’s calcium balance, so if you want to maintain bone or arterial health, supplementing with vitamin K is a good idea. Super K provides three types of vitamin K: vitamin K1 and two forms of K2, menaquinone-4 (MK-4) and menaquinone-7 (MK-7).
Vitamin K maintains bone density by aiding the transport of calcium into bones. It also supports normal function of the protein matrix Gla-protein (MGP), which helps regulate how calcium interacts with arterial walls, supporting healthy calcium balance in the arteries.
Vitamin K2, which is found in small amounts of cheese, egg yolks and some meats, has been discovered to be up to 6 times more bioavailable than K1, and remains active in the body for a longer period of time. The MK-4 form of K2 is known for being rapidly absorbed, but only lasts in the bloodstream for a short time. MK-7, on the other hand, can stay available in the body for up to 48 hours, and at much higher levels.
