- Betatene Natural Mixed Carotenoids from Swanson Ultra
- A patented form of beta-carotene derived from nutrient-rich sea algae
- Features vitamin A, lutein and zeaxanthin
Sea algae may not sound appetizing, but it sure delivers a good deal of nutrition. Swanson Betatene® Natural Mixed Carotenoids delivers a patented form of beta-carotene derived naturally from nutrient-rich sea algae Dunaliella salina. D salina naturally produces a broad spectrum of carotenoids. Carotenoids function as antioxidants, helping protect cells from oxidative stress caused by normal metabolism and environmental factors. Some carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, can also be converted into vitamin A, which supports healthy vision, immune function, and overall wellness.
Unlike supplements that provide only beta-carotene, Betatene® contains a blend of carotenoids, including beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and cryptoxanthin, in proportions similar to those found in nature. This diverse carotenoid profile provides broad-spectrum antioxidant support and serves as a natural source of provitamin A carotenoids.
Mixed Carotenoids from Swanson Ultra delivers a patented form of beta-carotene derived naturally from nutrient-rich sea algae. It's a complete source of carotenoid nutrition. Each capsule features vitamin A, lutein, zeaxanthin and cryptoxanthin, all from D. Salina algae.

FAQ
- What are carotenoids and what do carotenoids do for the body?
Carotenoids are naturally occurring plant pigments responsible for the vibrant red, orange, and yellow colors found in many fruits and vegetables. These compounds function as antioxidants, helping protect cells from oxidative stress caused by normal metabolism and environmental factors. Some carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, can also be converted into vitamin A, which supports healthy vision, immune function, and overall wellness. - What foods are naturally high in carotenoids?
Carotenoids are abundant in colorful fruits and vegetables, including carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, tomatoes, spinach, kale, collard greens, red peppers, cantaloupe, and apricots. Eating a variety of brightly colored produce is one of the best ways to support healthy carotenoid intake. - What are mixed carotenoids and what makes a mixed carotenoid supplement different?
Mixed carotenoids provide a blend of multiple carotenoid compounds, such as beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and cryptoxanthin. Because these nutrients naturally occur together in fruits and vegetables, mixed carotenoid supplements are designed to more closely reflect the diversity of carotenoids found in a healthy diet and provide broader antioxidant support than a single-carotenoid supplement. - What makes a mixed carotenoid supplement different from beta-carotene alone?
Beta-carotene is only one member of the carotenoid family. While it serves as a source of provitamin A, a mixed carotenoid supplement provides additional carotenoids that offer complementary nutritional and antioxidant benefits. By supplying a broader spectrum of carotenoids, mixed carotenoid formulas help support overall wellness in a way that more closely resembles the carotenoid profile found in whole foods. - Is Swanson Betatene® Natural Mixed Carotenoids suitable for special diets?
Swanson Betatene® Natural Mixed Carotenoids is non-GMO. However, it is not vegan or vegetarian because the softgel contains gelatin, and it is not certified gluten free.
