Serrapeptidase is a highly efficient proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzyme originally discovered in a bacteria found in the gut of the Japanese silk worm. Years of investigative research suggest that this unique enzyme may have tremendous health-promoting potential with applications for joint health, circulatory support, respiratory function and immune defenses.
Swanson Double Strength Serrazimes features an innovative, vegetarian-friendly source of serrapeptidase cultured on Aspergillus through a process developed by the enzyme experts at Deerland Probiotics & Enzymes (formerly National Enzyme Company). Serrapeptidase activity is measured in "serratiopeptidase units" and this formula delivers a powerful 40,000 units per capsule, compared to just 20,000 in our original high potency supplement.

FAQ
- What is SerraZimes®?
SerraZimes® is a proprietary blend of proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzymes that includes serrapeptase along with complementary enzymes such as bromelain, papain, nattokinase, and catalase. These enzymes are formulated to work together to support the body's normal protein metabolism and healthy tissue function. SerraZimes is commonly used in wellness supplements designed to support joint, muscle, and connective tissue health as part of a healthy lifestyle. - What is a proteolytic enzyme?
A proteolytic enzyme is an enzyme that breaks down proteins into smaller peptides and amino acids. The body naturally produces proteolytic enzymes to digest protein from food, but certain proteolytic enzymes are also used in dietary supplements to support the body's normal protein metabolism and healthy tissue function. Serratiopeptidase is one example of a proteolytic enzyme commonly used in wellness supplements. - What does "protein metabolism" mean?
Protein metabolism is the body's natural process of breaking down proteins into amino acids and using them to build, repair, and maintain tissues throughout the body. It also includes recycling old or damaged proteins so their building blocks can be reused. Proteolytic enzymes support this normal process by helping break down proteins into smaller, more usable components. - What makes Swanson Double Strength SerraZimes® unique?
Swanson Double Strength SerraZimes® delivers 40,000 units of serratiopeptidase activity— the strength of the serratiopeptidase enzyme—per capsule—twice the potency of Swanson's original formula. Produced through a fermentation process using Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus melleus, this vegetarian-friendly enzyme provides a highly active source of serrapeptidase to support healthy protein metabolism, connective tissue health, and overall joint wellness as part of a healthy lifestyle. - Is Swanson Double Strength SerraZimes® suitable for special diets?
Yes. Swanson Double Strength SerraZimes® is suitable for vegan and vegetarian lifestyles and is made with non-GMO ingredients. It is produced through a fermentation process and delivered in a vegetarian capsule. This product is not formulated or certified to be gluten-free, so individuals with gluten sensitivities should review the ingredient list before use.
