  • A crucial nutrient for bone maintenance

  • Enhances the absorption of calcium and magnesium

  • Each softgel delivers a full day's supply of vitamin D

Everyone knows that calcium is essential for maintaining strong bones, but calcium alone isn't enough. No matter how much calcium you get, it won't do you any good unless you have an adequate supply of vitamin D. That's because your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium from the intestinal tract. Our easy-to-swallow softgels deliver a full-day's supply of vitamin D.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Swanson's Vitamin D I do like the D3 better, but this a good, more affordable form of Vitamin D. Small little gel pill (just like a vit e pill), and the 400 I.U. is perfect if you want to take it throughout the day.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor labelling -more Vitamin A than D The front label only indicates Vitamin D. I found the label misleading, although a review of the back label shows how much Vitamin A there is. I usually look carefully at labels but this one got past me, and I was not interested in getting more Vitamin A.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vitamin D Unless you work outside in the sun all day and soak up all that free Vitamin D, you need to get it through supplements. This very low priced pill taken 2-3 time a day, plus what you would get in a multivitamin is perfect. Small and easy to take.

Q: Why are some vitamin D products measured in IU while others are in mcg?

Due to changes in FDA labeling guidelines, vitamin D amounts must now be listed in micrograms (mcg) on supplement facts and nutrition labels instead of international units (IU). Although these new guidelines were issued in 2016, updates weren't required until June 2020.

At Swanson, we began updating our labels in early 2017. You will see a mixture of both IU and mcg as our national brand partners complete this process.

Q: Did my vitamin D supplement change?

A: You may have noticed a change in the daily value percentage on your favorite vitamin D product, but that doesn't mean your product changed. The FDA increased the recommended daily intake (RDA) of vitamin D, which means the same product with the same ingredient amounts fulfills a lower percentage of the RDA than it prior to the change.

Q: How much vitamin D do I need each day?

In 2016, the Food and Nutrition Board increased the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of vitamin D for most adults from 10 mcg (400 IU) to 15 mcg (600 IU) per day, and 20 mcg (800 IU) for ages 70+.

Some doctors and nutritionists recommend higher daily vitamin D intakes, especially for those at risk for having low levels. The Vitamin D Council, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about vitamin D, recommends average adults supplement with 125 mcg (5,000 IU) of vitamin D daily. Talk with your doctor about your individual needs.
