Available from Swanson, L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that is used as a precursor for the synthesis of neurotransmitters in the brain, specifically dopamine and norepinephrine. These can be depleted during times of stress. Tyrosine is known to support the replenishment of both dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, which may protect against stress-induced cognitive issues. Dopamine may also encourage mental alertness. These neurotransmitters can support a more positive mood and cognitive function, so adding an L-tyrosine supplement to your regimen may contribute to a brighter, more positive mood. New research also indicates that L-tyrosine may promote healthy thyroid function as this amino acid is involved in the production of thyroid hormones.
