Source Naturals Astaxanthin, a member of the carotenoid family, is a powerful antioxidant. Research demonstrates that astaxanthin is stronger in scavenging free radicals than other carotenoids such as lutein, zeaxanthin, and beta-carotene, and stronger than alpha-tocopherol. Astaxanthin has also been shown to enhance the immune system in animal studies.

Because I can not say exactly how this helps, I would suggest doing a search. Many benefits.This along with D-Ribose and Acetyl L-Carnitine were among the first supps.
