Are You Familiar with Legislation from the WHO Known as Codex?
Vitamins and Supplements FAQs • January 1, 2011
Question: Are you familiar with Codex? What are you doing about this legislation from the World Health Organization?

Yes, we are familiar with Codex Alimentarius, the "standards, codes of practice and guidelines" set forth by the joint commission of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), the most powerful regulatory international body on food standards, meets regularly to ensure food safety and fair trade among various agencies and organizations throughout the world. The CAC puts together thousands of guidelines, including the Vitamin and Mineral Guideline (VMG). This guideline has generated significant controversy among health freedom supporters.

We believe in the preservation of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA); this legislation classifies dietary supplements as foods, prevents limits on their intake and is crucial for individuals to maintain access to alternative medicine in the United States. Consequently, we closely monitor all pending U.S. legislation through very active industry lobbies.

Industry groups and health freedom supporters agree that the single most important voice in this process belongs to you. Each site provides links to contact your elected officials so that you can express your support for DSHEA, keeping the right to choose vitamins, herbs and other dietary supplements for your good health.
