What Is Glutathione?
Glutathione (pronounced "gloota-thigh-own") is a very simple, straight forward antioxidant that is naturally produced in your body. In fact, your body is making it right now out of three building blocks: cysteine, glycine and glutamine. Even though there are over 75,000 medical articles written about this simple molecule, it still flies under the radar—even for doctors. This is unfortunate, because glutathione is really the master detoxifying antioxidant. Glutathione has been studied for its immune-supporting role in regards to aging, cardiovascular health, memory and brain health, and even protecting the body from serious diseases. Indeed, this antioxidant and free-radical fighter is one of the most important nutrients your body needs to maintain overall health and wellness. And while your body does produce glutathione, the bad news is that years of poor eating, pollution, prescription and non-prescription drugs, stress, aging and exposure to toxins all work together to deplete your natural glutathione levels. As with nearly every aspect of wellness, improving your natural glutathione-producing capabilities relies on two main things: diet and exercise. Consume sulfur-rich foods like garlic, onions and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale, collards, cabbage and cauliflower, and get at least 30 minutes of exercise daily.
You be well, now.
