Joint Health: Glucosamine Chondroitin Dosage Recommendations
Swanson Health • July 11, 2012

Let's continue our week-long look at dosage recommendations for a few top-products. Up today we have Glucosamine and Chondroitin...

Glucosamine and Chondroitin are two nutrients that are essential in the production of cartilage among other joint health benefits… but how much should you take?

The most common recommendations are to take 1,500 mg of Glucosamine and 1,200 mg of Chondroitin spread throughout the day (usually between 2 or 3 separate doses), but some people may have been recommended by their doctors to take larger doses in which case, they can follow the dosing guidelines that their doctor is suggesting.

Glucosamine is available in doses as high as 1,000 mg and Chondroitin is available in doses as high as 800 mg, so either would be absorbed well enough to be tolerated daily in those doses. It would be best to go for lower levels to ensure you can absorb all of the nutrients well. And as you might already know, these two joint health nutrients are often combined with MSM for a more all-in-one joint nourishing formula.
