5 Tips For Staying Healthy on a Road Trip
Swanson Health • June 29, 2017

Preparing for a big road trip this summer? When packing and planning are complete, make sure to carve out some time to focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle while you’re away.

We’ve got just the tips to keep you happy, healthy and enjoying your time off—and it starts before the trip even begins!

1Rest up. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep before getting behind the wheel, and make pit stops to rest and refresh if you’ll be traveling for long hours. Doing so will help you stay safe and alert while on the road.

2Snack healthy. Gas station snacks may be inexpensive and quick for on-the-go energy, but it’s important to fuel your body with healthy snacks. Some great options, include trail mix, granola and fruit. Additionally, substitute soda or other sugary beverages for water.

3Take a probiotic. To maintain optimal health throughout the trip, take a daily probiotic. Our Probiotic Blend for Immune Support is an ideal option for supporting a healthy immune system and keeping you feeling great during your trip and after. Probiotics support a healthy balance of digestive bacteria so that your body's immune system is able to do its job of supporting total wellness.

4Apply sunscreen. Apply sunscreen regularly throughout the trip to avoid a sunburn, and keep in mind that being in your car doesn’t mean you aren’t exposed to UV rays! For easy access, keep a travel size bottle of sunscreen in your car.

5Stop to stretch. Make a few stops along your journey to get out of the car to just stretch or take a walk. This will help to avoid any tension in areas like the knees, lower back, shoulders and neck, and is a great way to give yourself a mental refresh before getting back in the driver’s seat.
