Either you like the smell or you don't. The soap lathers like crazy, clean very well and leaves skin soft. No scent is left on skin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by baloobearmak Excellent traditional Pine Tar soap.
The is an excellent traditional Pine Tar soap with a terrific aroma. I can feel this product conditioning my scalp and skin. This lathers up so richly too, and doesn't "disappear" fast like some soaps do.

The soap does not smell like pine tar or turpentine. It has a very pleasant, unique aroma; not too strong. The soap lasts a good while and leaves you feeling clean & refreshed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MangoRico I love this soap!
I've been using it for 3 years now and it's my favorite. It lathers up very well and I've even started using it as shampoo. The smell is definitely not for everyone, but I love it. I only wish the price were a little cheaper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 9879876987659876549876543 So it smells woody!
Grandpa's soap is economical because it is soft and can be fused to the new bar so none is wasted.
It lathers very well and is kind to the skin, and without drying it out. It must be that woody oil!
OK it's smelly woody but not bad! Girlfriend hates it , but I say it beats them poofy smelling soaps and makes you feel clean and fresh, like a pine forest.
PS The girlfriend loves me so she makes allowances, lucky me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LedMan I love this stuff!
I was introduced to Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap when I inherited a bar after my mom passed away. We almost threw it out after a couple of uses because of the smell. I insisted on keeping it and have grown used to the soap's unusual smell. Leaving the bars out of their box way ahead of time (in an unused room of the house) helps quite a bit.
It lathers well and rinses off easily. I use it on my hair and full beard as well and like the results. It doesn't irritate my skin. I was having problems with "regular" soaps in those areas that don't get much air. I've also discontinued regular use of deodorant - in the middle of July in Florida! So far, no body odor for over 24 hours after showering.
I'm on my fourth bar of it and have already reordered from Swanson's. They offer the best deal on the stuff I could find and get it to your door very fast. I'll be back for more when it's needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HideKon Works great in Florida summer
It's one of the very few soap product I use on regular basis. Gives me clean feel even in this humid Florida summer. It doesn't moisturize or dry out my skin--just neutral. Works great for shaving, too. Now, if you are more concerned about how the thing smells, I wouldn't recommend it--it does have that particular smell a bit. I'm using less and less of my own home-made shampoo, too. This might become the only soap product I use pretty soon.

Heard about this product from a Beard Champion & he recommended this soap for use on beards & it's wonderful: I like the scent, it lathers really well - 3 turns in the hand under running water washes my thick beard & hair too. Can't beat the price & I'm a "budget" shopper. Will be ordering here for now on!

It is different, no doubt about it. Simple ingredients, simple product. It has a distinct smell, if you looking soap stuffed full of fragrances, this is not it. Lathers very well, rinses clean without a dried out feeling. No harsh chemicals, just soap. Give it an even shot, be objective.

This soap has a very different but very pleasant aroma. Its more authentic and NOT contaminated with perfume. At this price, I will definitely be stocking up on these for the whole family.

I've read some of the negative reviews about this product...you've got to be kidding is all I can say. It's "pine tar" soap...just what in the world were you expecting? It smells like pine tar...just like it says. My family makes fun of me using it...but then my daughter asks me why I smell so good. Some like it and some don't. For those that don't...it doesn't make it a bad product so they should take a chill pill. It lathers well, cleans well and I like the piney-woods smell. It's a man's soap and it does the job. I used to buy it years ago in drug stores...then it wasn't available. Until I decided to search the net. A terrific value at Swanson's.

I reviewed this a few months ago and they didnt post my review. why not, swanson?
This soap was so awful smelling it deserves a second effort on my part to tell you .
If you take a shower with this soap , you will smell like a rubber tire factory for a whole week.
I'm not joking. walk into a tire store and take a whiff. This soap leaves a worse smell than that.

This stuff is a top notch Cooty killer...I have used it on babies (30 years ago), the dog (to squelch Newf-odor) collie-aroma, and to generally rid the ills and stench of the body; think chicken coop in March, or swamp foot! It has the romantic smell of a week in the woods camping, of something roasted over an outdoor fire, of ski wax (grunvalla) and all things sacred and wild. It is so mild to the skin that you can think of it as a beauty bar, and the same goes for the body wash. This "ain't yer Irish Spring" this is far better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mrsbutler So comforting!
I adore most of Grandpa soaps, but the pine tar is just about my favorite. The corn soap runs a very close second! I just love the smell of Pine Tar. It reminds me of when I was a little girl. Some people don't like the smell, but in a world where there are so many commercial fragrances out there, its nice to mix it up and baffle a few people by smelling like pine tar! HA! I get a kick out of it.Plus it just feels good. :-)
