Moroccan Burgers

These hamburgers bring a lovely blend of spices to the dinner table with a flavor that's zingy but not too spicy for people who don’t like hot foods. The recipe features hot spices like cumin and sweeter spices like cinnamon for a burger that not only tastes good but smells delicious. Turkish apricots and sunflower seeds not only give a sweet taste to each bite but also add texture. Our homemade sauce is a mixture of sweet, tart and salty to perfectly complement the earthy flavors of this main dish.

Hamburgers 1 pound lean ground beef 1/3 cup turkish apricots, finely chopped 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds, hulled 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon Himalayan crystal salt 1/2 teaspoon cumin (ground) 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (ground) 1/4 teaspoon ground coriander 1/4 teaspoon whole peppercorns, ground 4 buns Lettuce leaves 1 medium tomato, sliced Sauce 1/3 cup ketchup 1/8 teaspoon cumin (ground) 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon (ground) 1/8 teaspoon ground coriander 1/8 teaspoon whole peppercorns, ground
    Combine all sauce ingredients in a small bowl and stir until well blended. Set aside. Combine ground beef, apricots, sunflower seeds and all hamburger spices in a large bowl. Shape mixture into four thick patties. If grilling outdoors, grill patties on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium heat for 14 to 18 minutes or until done (160° F), turning once halfway through grilling. For indoor grills, heat grill to medium heat and cook according to specific grilling instructions or until done. Serve burgers on rolls topped with sauce, lettuce and tomatoes.
