Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)

EFAs are fatty acids that humans and other animals must ingest because the body requires them for good health but cannot manufacture them on its own. The two most important types are omega-3 and omega-6. Omega-3 fatty acids (linolenic acids) are found most commonly in cold-water fish. These fatty acids are not one single nutrient, but a collection of several, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These essential nutrients play a key role in supporting cardiovascular health and brain development and function.
