Decaf Coffee
Also known as: Decaffeinated coffee
Decaffeinated coffee is regular coffee that has been processed to remove caffeine. Decaf coffee is required to have less than 0.05% caffeine. Caffeine is water soluble, so it is possible to remove the caffeine from coffee. Coffee beans are naturally green in color. They are initially processed using a decaffeination solution that soaks through the beans. The coffee is rinsed with water to remove the caffeine solution. The coffee beans are then dried and processed again to remove the caffeine. This process removes 99% of the caffeine and results in coffee that generally tastes the same as regular coffee.
