Castile soap is a type of plant-based (vegetable) soap that gets its name from the Castilla region in Spain, but it doesn't originate from there. It's actually one of the first soaps known to man and perhaps the best-known type of all time. The term 'Castile' is often used as a general reference for milder types of soaps - those made from 100% pure vegetable oils rather than being mixed with other ingredients or fragrances.
