A message from Lee Swanson, printed just inside the front cover of the recent Swanson Catalog, which expires on 12/31/13, on pages 3 and 4, urges us to read the important, albeit technical, article regarding Flavonoids (Bioflavonoids) that is presented there.
Following quotations from Socrates and his most devout student, Hippocrates, this article states that Nobel Prize Winner Albert-Szent-Gyorgyi first referred to Flavonoids as "Vitamin P" in the 1930s. The article goes on to state that there are over 4,000 Bioflavonoids. That number blew my mind.
I am, of course, familiar with the common ones: Lemon/Citrus Bioflavonoids, Rutin, and Hesperidin, as most of us are. They are members of the C-Complex Family, and can be found in Swanson's excellent Supreme C-Complex product, which I have used and with which I have been extremely pleased for quite a few years.
The first Bioflavonoid I can recall, dating back to the 1950s, was Rutin. It was commonly referred to as "Vitamin P" at that time, no doubt stemming from Albert Szent-Gyorgyi's noted reference in the 1930s.
Rutin has been a supporting player in C-Complex products for decades. I am glad to see it is now receiving its deserved star status with this 500 mg. Swanson Premium Rutin capsule. The entire Bioflavonoid Family is wonderful in my opinion and experience. You can read right in Swanson's Catalogs and on their fine website how Rutin works with Vitamin C to promote absorption and blood vessel integrity, as well as being a stand-alone antioxidant.
My family and I choose to take 2 to 4 of Swanson's 500 mg. Premium Rutin capsules daily as part of our regular nutritional supplement regimen. Works for me.

I took RUTIN years ago and remembered how much it helped my eyes to see things clearer. A friend of mine recommended it to me and so I decided to try it again and Swansons RUTIN is good quality at a good price. After taking it for 3 weeks, I can notice a difference. Good product.

I am so glad to have found Swanson's rutin from Buckwheat. So many other rutin products are from plants I've never heard of, and could not tolerate. But Buckwheat is a great source of Rutin and Swanson has it.
Thank you Swanson for another great product!

The Swanson website says about sw1066:
- Enhances the absorption of vitamin C
- Helps keep capillaries strong
- Promotes circulation of the blood
Rutin is found naturally in buckwheat, and it is one of many bioflavonoids that enhance the absorption of vitamin C. Used together, rutin and Vitamin C strengthen and preserve the structure of capillaries and promote circulation in the body, thereby greatly supporting cardiovascular health. Rutin also stimulates the production of bile to help with more complete digestion of foods, and it is a powerful antioxidant in its own right.

I agree with what the Swanson website says and that is why I open eight of these two piece capsules and mix the powder into my yogurt every day. I open many two piece capsules into my yogurt every day and the Rutin is the easiest because it flows well and does not stick to the inside of the capsule.
