Been looking for a healthy vegan butter substitute and this is a good one. Mashing some into a baked white potato with a little salt looks cheddar-cheese baked and tastes yummy. I wish red palm oil cost less but Swanson's prices are among the best--and it's virgin certified organic. February 14, 2015

Rated 4 out of 5 Good red palm oil This is a good organic virgin red palm oil from Ecuador. However, I would like Swanson Vitamins to include in their catalog a high oleic palm oil that is at least 50% oleic acid. High oleic palm oils are available, and they are made by controlling the temperature and allowing the palmitic and stearic acid components solidify, so that they can be screened out from the rest of the oil, which becomes a nice deep red oil that remains liquid at room temperature. According to Nutraceuticals World "One of the key issues associated with red palm oil is maintaining its stability to prevent rancidity and off-taste. While standard palm oil is devoid of phytonutrients, crude palm oil (unrefined palm oil) contains high levels of free fatty acids, moisture and impurities, and other odorous matter. The enzyme lipases of the crude oil will catalyze the breakdown of triglycerides to produce more free fatty acids in crude palm oil, causing rancidity during storage and transportation."
