Antioxidant
Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) has the unique property of both fat & water solubility that makes it even more effective as a nutritional aid.

Good antioxidant
I like that alpha lipoic acid is a good antioxidant that crosses the blood-brain barrier, unlike many other antioxidants. Swanson's ALA is just as effective as more expensive brands. I feel more energetic when taking ALA, and I use it to counter the oxidative side effects of fish oil. My only "complaint" about ALA is you must take it with food. If I don't, it makes my stomach burn. It can be inconvenient to take before bed if I've forgotten to eat a snack first, since I have to eat something then.

The Perfect Anti-oxidant
ALA is both water soluble and fat soluble and that gives it an advantage because it can locate almost anywhere in your cells for all around anti-oxidant action.

Ease of Alpha Lipoc Acid
I like the ease of taking capsules in the exact amount I need. Swanson's 50 mg alpha lipoic acid provides that.

Your eye health!
Altho Alpha Lipoic Acid is widely used in Europe as one piece of the "eye health" puzzle, it is almost unknown here. Early in the last decade Lutein became widely known & used, but ALA has not yet achieved that familiarity. A combination of the two is a quite reasonable regimine for "eye health."
