Acetyl L-Carnitine May Boost Concentration

January 2005

The results of a recently published study conducted at the Research Center Amsterdam in the Netherlands suggest that supplemental acetyl L-carnitine may help fight mental fatigue and improve attention and concentration. In a randomized, controlled trial involving 90 subjects, one group of 30 subjects was given two grams of acetyl L-carnitine per day for 24 weeks, with fatigue and concentration test scores assessed after 8, 16 and 24 weeks. Subjects given acetyl L-carnitine experienced significant improvement in fatigue and concentration. These improvements were correlated with changes in plasma carnitine levels.
