Inositol Hexaphosphate Helps Inhibit Cancer

Inositol hexaphosphate (IP-6), the phosphorylated form of inositol, a compound found naturally in high-fiber foods, inhibits cancer, according to a review published in Current Cancer Therapy Reviews.

According to the authors of the review, IP-6 has shown antineoplastic activity in several animal and human models of cancer, including cancer of the prostate, uterine cervix, soft tissue, colon, blood, lung, liver, breast and skin, most likely due to its antiproliferative activity against cancer cells and ability to increase differentiation of cancer cells, often prompting reversion to normal phenotype and reduction in tumor biomarkers.

The authors also said the combination of IP-6 and inositol enhances the anticancer effect of conventional chemotherapy, controls metastases and enhances quality of life, as shown in pilot clinical trials, and concluded the combination holds great promise in strategies for prevention and therapy of cancer.
