Farro is one of the oldest known grains to be cultivated by humans in the fertile crescent region of the Middle East. Now, farro is grown primarily in Italy, which is where Nature's Earthly Choice imports their organic farro to be packaged here in the USA. Like quinoa, farro is an ancient grain that is being rediscovered by chefs throughout Europe and North America. Pearled farro (pearling removes the outer husk of the seed, shortening the cooking time) is remarkably easy to prepare. HOW TO COOK: Farro is easy to prepare and cooks relatively quickly. First rinse the grains, and then place 1 cup of grain into a saucepan with at least 3 cups of water. Cover and bring to a low boil for 15 minutes or until "al dente" or chewy. Some people like to add a touch of salt while cooking.

YUMMY! I had never heard of this grain until recently. Boy am I glad I tried it! I made some vegetable beef soup recently and added a cup of this to my soup and it is so delicious! It has a nutty flavor and it is kind of like barley but more tender. It is also great cooked like rice with chicken or beef stock as the liquid (instead of water). I highly recommend this!
