“For centuries noni has been the primary medicine used to keep the Polynesian people of Hawaii and Tahiti vibrant and healthy.”

Lee Swanson, President of Swanson Health Products

The Garden of Eden was certainly filled with delectable fruits of many shapes, colors and varieties, although they remain unnamed in the Genesis account of creation. It’s only speculation on my part, but it would certainly make sense that the Tree of Life contained an unusual fruit called noni. Noni is a peculiar sort of fruit in many ways. It looks odd, it tastes even odder, and the health benefits that can be derived from it are unprecedented. Although there is still much to be discovered about noni, it reportedly has helped many individuals to live a longer and healthier life than previously thought possible.

What is in noni that makes it so good for health?
In addition to vitamins and minerals, noni fruit can be broken down into more than 100 different nutraceutical compounds that all contribute to good health. You may recognize a few of them like lauric acid, which aids the immune system in fighting all sorts of attackers to our wellness; campesterol, which helps keep cholesterol levels in the healthy range; and carotene, a very powerful and highly beneficial antioxidant. Perhaps the most important constituent of noni, however, is a building block called proxeronine, which is integral to the repair and rejuvenation of all our cells in the body. In fact, this chemical is likely the reason why noni has become a bona fide legend for keeping the people of the Polynesian islands healthy throughout the ages! There is no food that contains as much proxeronine as noni. The next richest source of it is pineapple, yet noni has 40 times more proxeronine than pineapple does!

What does noni do for a person?
Ancient Ayurvedic texts call noni “ashyuka,” which is Sanskrit for "longevity." The texts explain that noni balances the body, stabilizing it in a state of perfect harmony. Specifically, there are over 25 health concerns that reportedly have been helped by noni consumption, and they are detailed in Dr. Neil Solomon’s booklet, Noni Juice: How Much, How Often, For What.  Noni can ramp up the immune system, help a person better cope with stress, increase energy, improve sleep, sharpen the mind, lose weight, protect the health of the heart, joints, digestive and respiratory systems and simply enable a person to feel more alive—more vibrant, like the way we all were designed to live with an improved sense of wellness.

How does noni help with so many different health conditions?
Remember that noni is not a drug or pill that is designed to address a particular health condition; rather, it is a food that was created to nourish the body on the cellular level—and a very powerful one at that! Nutrient-dense food is actually the ideal “medicine,” because from it new cells are perpetually repaired or replaced throughout our entire lifetime. Many of noni’s wide-ranging health benefits have been attributed to its ability to boost nitric oxide levels in the body, as well as its proxeronine content (mentioned above), plus many antioxidants and other nutritional compounds.

Why haven’t I heard more about noni?
Noni has yet to be studied in-depth the way vitamins C and E have been, for instance, so it hasn’t received the attention of the medical profession, the scientific community or much of the media. Yet I predict that fact soon will change! It would be a huge mistake to ignore the volumes of anecdotal evidence suggesting that noni is at least as powerful as the aforementioned nutrients, and perhaps even more so. Anecdotal evidence can be immensely significant and meaningful, and the material in Dr. Solomon’s book (mentioned above) was derived from 1,227 health professionals representing 25,314 noni juice drinkers.

How much noni do I need per day?
The answer to that question varies based on your specific needs and the health concerns that you want to address. The average daily serving is two to three ounces, but you can certainly take more if you find it necessary. Again, I highly recommend the booklet Noni Juice: How Much, How Often, For What by Dr. Neil Solomon since he offers dosing guidelines for 29 individual health concerns.

What if I don’t like the taste?
It’s true that noni fruit naturally has a “strange” taste; in fact, some people claim that it smells and tastes like blue cheese, of all things! The noni juice in our Swanson Ultra line has been freeze dried and reconstituted with natural fruit juices including strawberry, apple and grape, rather than just plain water, to enhance the taste and give it a fruity flavor. In fact, many customers actually love it! And rest assured, the nutrient profile has been carefully preserved with this method of preparation. My favorite way to drink noni juice is to mix two ounces of it with two ounces of pineapple juice and four ounces of San Pellegrino sparkling water, plus a dash of lime juice. Another option is to try the noni capsules, which we offer in a 60-count size and a 120-count size. A daily serving is two capsules. Whichever delivery method you prefer, don’t miss out on this true gift from nature to help preserve your health!
