I think this is a good way to add protein from plant sources to the diet. I use it most days in my morning smoothie. I wish that it was organic but that would make the price too high for my budget. It is a complete plant protein.

In my search for a good plant-based protein powder, I found this to be an impressive blend of the plants used, at an affordable price that's not so painful. It is enjoyable with almond milk (add yogurt for extra creaminess and protein) and I have what I consider a healthy 'vanilla malt'.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Acorna Healthy, but not too palatable
Protein drink mixes have been part of my daily or weekly diet for the past 3 years. Lately, I've been trying to switch from whey to plant protein based mixes. Given my preferences and many food intolerances, this has proven to be a difficult task.
First, the good: this is one of the few plant-protein products I've found (so far) that even comes close to meeting my criteria: non-GMO; no wheat/gluten, soy, or peanuts (also no egg, dairy, fish/shellfish); sweetened with stevia; essential and non-essential amino acids; and few or no unwanted "extras," all for an incredibly low price.
The not-so-good: the consistency is too thick and grainy to just mix into a beverage by hand; definitely needs to be put in the blender (on "liquefy"). Since I usually blend in other ingredients anyway, that could be forgiven if it tasted better. The taste is hard to describe; even mixed with vanilla almond milk, it was bland and grassy tasting; no hint that stevia and vanilla flavoring are part of the formula. Even the addition 2 packs of Stevia, a teaspoon of vanilla, and 6 oz. of strawberries did little to improve it. What I ended up with was a thick, brownish-green, mildly sweet, grassy=tasting vanilla shake with an almost imperceptible hint of strawberry. It wasn't horrible (I've tried some protein drinks that were so nasty I absolutely could not gag them down), but I've also had some really delicious protein shakes...and (although my vegan friends might disagree) this is not one of them.
If this is as good as it gets in affordable, plant-based protein drink mixes, I'l switch back to whey before I buy this product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jewelb Nice, neutral flavor that mixes well
I bought several protein drinks at once to sample. I didn't care for too many as the flavors seemed a little odd and I didn't necessarily look forward to them, so I am still continuing on a pursuit of sampling others to find favorites.
This is one of two however (Sun Warrior brand# that is one of my favorites I'm re-purchasing due to the neutral taste that isn't a weird flavor that I have tolerate, nor is it a great flavor I look forward to. #I've only found one like that but it's 4 times the price for the same amount of protein#.
It just seems to blend well with my greens powder without tasting bad. I find it to be more of a neutral, yet pleasant enough taste for my taste preference. Other drinks are more flavorful, but I don't necessarily care for the flavoring attempting to taste good, but usually tastes a little weird for me. So I don't have to deal with an odd flavor with this one. It strikes me as a nice neutral base for those who want to add ingredients to custom-make their own flavor combinations, without having to compete with an existing flavor.
This powder also has a number of great Benefits at a great low price:
1. 21 g of protein
2. High in fiber at 5 g using chia fiber that contains Omega 3 #both of which are hard to get in the American diet#. Chia is known to be stable as opposed to flax that can go rancid
3. Only 1 g of sugar, and contains 3 healthier sweeteners #Xylitol, Lo Han Guo, and stevia#, rather than artificial types with negative effects
4. No artificial ingredients
5. Low in both sodium & fat
6. Non-GMO and gluten-free, suitable for many who are sensitive to allergies
8. Great value at just under $1 per serving! That's not easy to find, and makes it more affordable to incorporate an easy-to-prepare source of extra protein.
The one caution with this any any other powders sweetened with sugar alcohols like the xylitol in this one, is I've read that xylitol is great for mouth health up to 5 g a day. But be careful not to over-consume this sugar alcohol #like with all sugar-alcohols# because it can cause loose stools.
As far as mixability, there seem to be a lot of mixed reviews on this. I find that whey protein powders mix really well into a fine consistency, but plant proteins are thicker by comparison. The negative reviews make me think it sounds terrible, but my experience is I'm not particularly picky about how fine the consistency is as long as it dissolves relatively well with a small effort with minimal clumps #that usually come from the powders I mix into it), which I find this does for me.
For those sensitive to wanting a fine consistency that completely mixes in, they may want to stick with whey protein powders.

I tried this protein powder in green smoothies and plain blended with water/almond milk - the smoothie didn't taste very good compared to other powders and the plain mix was not well flavored and gross texture. My favorites are: Lifetime Life Basics, Sun Warrior Blend Vanilla and Olympian Labs Vanilla.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AndrewSF Tasty and Easy-to-mix Vegetable protein
My background / reason for looking for a product like this:
Being an active person who is lactose-intolerant and values good quality as-natural-as-can-be foods, I am always on the lookout for lactose-free proteins that are organic and/or amazing quality with little additives. I eat a lot of food daily in order to meet a high energy requirement, and as an omnivore, I eat a lot of animal products for protein (meat, eggs, yogurt). But I also value having alternative protein sources so that I don't elevate my cholesterol levels.
My experience with this product:
Having tried various vegetarian/vegan products in the past that are chalky and don't mix well to the point that they make you cough (brown rice protein, most hemp proteins, and Garden of Life RAW varieties), I've found it challenging to find to options that work well for me. But the Jarrow Optimal Plant Proteins is AWESOME. Not only does it taste great, but it mixes easily. I experience no bloating or discomfort with this product. I also appreciate the way the chia seeds sit at the bottom, contributing to a little texture.
I really like the blend of plant proteins in this product - it's unique, and it's great if you don't like soy. I happen to be fine with organic soy products in moderation, and I'm fine with pea protein as well - those are both healthy options. But this product is more balanced in its amino acid content than a single plant protein, and it doesn't have any strange flavors like NOW pea protein or brown rice protein.
If you think that this price is a bit higher per pound than other simple plant protein options without additives (pea protein, soy protein), you're right. But it's totally worth it. Jarrow Optimal Plant Proteins is about the same price as Spiru-tein but doesn't have as many additives, and it also less expensive than other plant protein mixtures.
I'm a fan of every aspect of this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Art44 Great for Body Building
This is a great product for vegetarians who want to get away from Soy and build muscle as well. I've gained 10 pounds taking half of what is recommended on the container. I'm feeling great and I'm not on a weight increase diet. I haven't changed my normal diet whatsoever. I think it tastes great with or without fruit but I prefer it with.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Petie1 Awful!
This tastes awful, has an awful after taste, doesn't mix well at all. I am usually a fan of Jarrow products, but they really missed the mark on this one. I tried mixing it in my blender bottle with 4 ounces of juice and 4 ounces of water, as I've done with other protein powders, and this just does not mix well at all. Lots of clumps and just tastes awful. This is the first product I've ever been so dissatisfied with that I'm returning it. I'll stick with the Plantfusion protein powders!

I have tasted some pea/rice powder that tastes ok, but this stuff is just too grainy and the taste is not good. I'll probably gag it down because I don't want it to go to waste but I won't order more or recommend it.

I have used several protein products, and have liked this one, and it is more affordable with the Swanson's discount price on Jarrow products.it has a fairly good taste, good texture, and is easily digestible. I sometimes enjoy it in juices as well, and also mixed with other supplements.
