Old-Fashioned Bar Shampoo Tea Tree + Hemp Oil
My new shampoo!
I am always trying out new natural health and beauty products but a lot of them don't work out so well. This one lives up to what it claims, though. I have well water which means a lot of natural soaps don't lather well. This one does. Now, I don't have long hair so I can't say it will work for everyone. But for me it gets my hair clean without drying it all out and leaves it feeling naturally soften.

i thought I had already reviewed this product but here goes. I think it is great for thinning hair. I got my 89 yr. old mom to use it with good results. I've started my 72 yr. old husband on it now. His hair used to be thick like mom's but is now really thinning. It hasn't been enough time to see if it will work for him or not --will update in 6 mos. The bar is not as easy to use as bottled shampoo but is not too bad. You have to make sure you keep it out of water if not in use. I went to the dollar store and got one of those soap stands that let the bar drain. You can also purchase a wooden holder from the company.
I don't use it because my hair is thick and unruly and I use a keratin based shampoo with success.

STEP UP TO THE BAR
Like you, I used liquid shampoos. I am a fanatical label reader, so I always went for all natural ingredients with no chemicals, colorings, et al. Swanson Health Products carries many good, guilt-free shampoos that meet all my needs. I have used quite a few of them. Just for fun and variety, I like trying different products all the time.
I was perusing Swanson's mind boggling shampoo inventory, and I came across this Old Fashioned All Natural Shampoo in bar form. What really caught my attention was that the front of the label said Tea Tree and Hemp Oil. Two of my favorites. The price is reasonable, so I gave it a try.
I like it. I have 'normal' hair. A normal length man's haircut. Normal, neither dry nor oily, scalp and hair. It was easy to use on my length of hair. I thought about whether or not it would be easy for a woman with long hair to use a bar shampoo. I guess that depends on the woman.
Anyway, it worked great for me in every way. It did all the usual, good shampoo things: good suds, really cleaned well, left my hair in good condition, and lasted a reasonable length of time. One thing, though - - - it REALLY burns the eyes. So I was just careful about that.
I never use a conditioner. However, I always massage 27 drops / shakes from my bottle of Desert Essence Jojoba Oil (with a very convenient applicator top) into my hair and scalp for a few minutes while my hair is still damp after shampooing. Following my usual procedure, I found that my hair was excellent after using J.R.Liggett's Old Fashioned Bar Shampoo with Tea Tree and Hemp Oil.
Just for fun and good hair, and to break the same-ol' same-ol' liquid shampoo routine, you might want to give this very good bar shampoo a try. Everyone's hair and scalp are different, so there's no guarantee that this or any other shampoo will be ideal for you. That being said, I like it, and I can recommend that you give it a try. Works for me.

Great IF you follow up with something acidic
This is a great product, as long as you follow up with something to balance out your hair's ph.
This product worked perfectly when I first got it. However, after a little while of using it, I noticed my hair was remaining oily and felt like it had strange residue. It gummed up my hairbrush. After some research, I discovered why: this shampoo is NOT ph balanced. It contains Sodium Hydroxide (so it's like scrubbing your hair with soap) which is alkaline. Hair needs to be more acidic. The easy fix is to rinse with apple cider vinegar mixed with water (I keep it in a jar in the shower: 1 part acv to about 5 parts water, roughly. Pour it over the head, then rinse out). After doing this, it seemed to fix the problem.
Bottom line...I have waist-length hair and find this works great as long as I follow up with an apple cider vinegar rinse. No other conditioner, needed. The bar lasts me a little over a month.

I love this shampoo!!!!
Made only with plant based ingredients and it contains no "sls" or other questionable chemicals, so you can feel safe using it.
Makes your hair squeaky clean, with no residue and you don't even need to use conditioner after

I am 70 years old and my hair is getting thin and hard to manage. The JR Liggetts Bar Shampoo is perfect. It leaves my hair manageable and it does not dry out - also you do not need to use a conditioner. It is all in one bar.

This product didnt impress me, it left my hair really oily especially at the scalp. It feels like your wearing the shampoo after the hair dries. It does last long but thats the only advantage...

My scalp did not like this bar shampoo...
I wanted to love this product because I like the idea of a shampoo in soap form.
Plus I heard that hemp seed oil is great for moisturizing the scalp... but my scalp did not react well to this "shampoo". It smelled great, but it irritated my sensitive scalp! (Dryness and itchines... aargh!)
So I'm using this as a regular soap for my body instead.
If you have a sensitive scalp like me, it's better just to use essential oils themselves (hemp seed/tea tree/lavender) or vinegar with lemon juice. Everything else will irritate!

WE've never used this type of shampoo before. I have been looking for something without the Sodium Laurel Sulfates. This does a beautiful Job. Takes a little getting used to, as there is not much lathering, but that is because it does not contain all the garbage. I have very long wavy/ curly hair so I still need a conditioner. Husband does not need conditioner, and he has a little longer hair than most men these days. It looks great after blow drying.
