Beet - Beta vulgaris
Early Wonder Tall Top: Tall vigorous green tops with maroon veins. Quick emergence in cold soils and attractive tops make this a great early season variety for greens as well as 3" dark red globes.
Planting Tips: The beet is a hardy biennial (producing seed in its second year). Direct seed as soon as soil can be worked. Optimal germination temperature is 55-75°F, but will germinate in temperatures as low as 45°F. Seeding rate: 10 seeds/ft.; plant spacing: thin to 2-3"; row spacing: 12-18". Thinned seedlings may be used as greens or baby beets. Transplants can be started indoors or in a cold frame 4-6 weeks before planting date. Prefers loamy soils with a pH over 6.0 and cool temps. Harvest at desired size.
