Broccoli Brassica oleracea var italica

De Cicco: Multi-cut heirloom variety producing compact 3-4" blue-green central heads followed by a prolific set of side shoots. Variable maturity results in a long harvest period.

Planting Tips: Broccoli is a hardy annual. Transplanting is recommended for spring, but seeds can be directly sown in the summer for fall crops. Start transplants 4-6 weeks before planting date. Optimal soil temp for germination is 55-80°F. Seeding rate: 3 seeds/ft; plant spacing: 8-12"; row spacing: 18". Plant outside after danger of hard frost has passed. Broccoli thrives in cool weather but consistent low temps of 40° or below may cause premature heads (buttoning). Side shoots may appear after center dome is harvested.

  • Seed Planting Depth: 1/4-1/2 inch
  • Seed Spacing: 4 inches
  • Days to Germination: 3-8
  • Plant Spacing After Thinning: 12-18 inches
  • Plant Height: 18-30 inches
  • Days to Maturity: 48
