Pumpkin - Curcubita pepo
Baby Pam: Pie pumpkin with perfect 4-5 lb. fruits with fairly smooth skin for painting or pies. Known for its very sweet, stringless flesh. Keeps well for Thanksgiving pies and beyond.
Planting Tips: Tender Annual. Direct sow or start indoors 4 weeks before frost date. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 85-95°F. Row spacing is 5-6'. The more crowded the greater number of pumpkins, but smaller sized. Plant outdoors after danger of all frost has passed. Black plastic mulch and floating row cover can be used to increase soil and air temps, as well as ward off cucumber beetles. Harvest before hard frost.
