At some point in a woman’s life
she likely will be concerned with the subject of bladder health
in the same way that men think about prostate health. Both
of these issues are directly related to the health of the urinary
tract. (Men’s Prostate Health is addressed as a separate
Health Concern.) A few key habits plus effective dietary supplements
will keep this vital elimination route in peak condition and
trips to the bathroom to a comfortable level.
Five Daily Tips
for Promoting Urinary Tract Health
- Take a tub bath rather than a shower, adding 10 to 15 drops
of organic lavender essential oil to the water. Lavender
is very cleansing and purifying. Relax and soak in the water
for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of distilled water per day;
10 is even better.
- Begin the day with a glass of hot distilled water and the
juice of a fresh organic lemon. Sweeten with a drop or two
of honey if preferred.
- Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables like celery, watermelon
juice, and umeboshi plum balls (see the supplement Mumefural),
plus green drinks like Green Max to move the pH level of
your system toward the alkaline end of the scale. Avoid acid-forming
foods like caffeine and chocolate.
- Massage your lower abdomen each day with a preparation
made from almond oil and essential oils of several woods.
These essential oils are very powerful and work well to maintain
urinary tract health. Mix 1 ounce of almond oil (the carrier
oil) with 3 drops of sandalwood oil, 2 drops of cedarwood
oil, 2 drops of cypress oil, 1 drop of benzoin resin, and
1 drop of frankincense. The essential oils are available
at your local health food store or online. This preparation
should last about 5 days, and the earthy aroma is fantastic!
Six Supplements for Support
- Cranberry—Encourages a healthy environment
in the bladder and urinary tract. Cranberry is a fantastic and natural source
of phenolic compounds that provide the body with powerful
antioxidant protection. For more information regarding how
cranberry benefits the urinary tract, visit www.cranmax.com.

“Drinking large amounts of cranberry cocktail is not only inconvenient, but can be expensive and high in calories. For these reasons, supplements are often preferred. Cran-Max is a full-spectrum supplement containing all the vital parts of the cranberry
the fruit, seeds, skin and juice.” |

- D-Mannose—A highly effective natural
choice for urinary tract care. D-Mannose is referred to as
a glyconutrient because it is a naturally occurring simple
sugar with specific nutritional benefits for the kidneys,
bladder, and urinary tract.
- Mumefural—Potent extract from the
umeboshi plum that is highly alkalizing to the system. It’s
the perfect antidote to “over-acid” eating, which
defines most of our diets in the US. Urinary tract health
depends on an alkaline environment.
- Uva Ursi—Traditionally used for
bladder and urinary tract health. This herb is most effective
when taken with calcium citrate to keep the urine on the
alkaline side of the pH scale rather than with acidic foods
like orange juice.
- Acidophilus—Helps maintain a healthy
environment in the urinary tract.
- Garlic—Helps maintain a healthy
environment in the urinary tract.
