Futurebiotics Astaxanthin is a multifunctional antioxidant derived from whole microalgae, Haematococcus pluvialis. Astaxanthin is one of a group of natural pigments known as carotenoids. It is considered nature's super antioxidant, boosting the natural antioxidant defenses of many body systems. Due to the unique structure of astaxanthin, including the ability to pass the "blood-brain barrier," astaxanthin is able to deliver antioxidant benefits directly to the brain and central nervous system. Research has demonstrated that astaxanthin is many times more powerful as an antioxidant than beta-carotene and vitamin E.
