Chia seed originated in Mexico and Central America and was a staple in the diets of ancient Mayans and Aztecs. The tiny seeds of the chia plant can be eaten right out of the bag, sprinkled on hot cereal and used in baking for a nutritional boost. All natural.

I have cooked them with milk and a little sugar and it makes a delicious quick meal with protein and fiber. A little goes a long way, too. It doesn't take much to jell a bowl of milk. The Chia seeds have virtually no flavor, so you can add them to anything. Nice for a pick-me-up in the middle of the day. May 5, 2015

My favorite is this: You can soak 1 TBSP in a 1/4 cup water to substitute for one egg in a recipe. If 2 eggs use one egg and chia. You can use the same measurement for half the oil in a recipe. Lett the chia soak for at least 15 - 30 minutes stirring immediately and then every 5 minutes so it doesn't clump. April 11, 2013
