New Natural Health Product Finds

I mentioned in my bio that I try to buy cruelty-free products whenever possible, so I wanted to share with you a couple of my favorite animal-friendly finds in the world of all natural health products.

Nature’s Gate Colloidal Oatmeal Moisturizing Lotion is my new favorite moisturizer. You might remember oatmeal baths from childhood bouts of sunburn or poison ivy. Same concept. Colloidal oatmeal has natural anti-itch properties, which makes it perfect for dry winter skin. This lotion has a wonderful fresh scent – a little like bread dough, actually – but it’s very light, so it would be great for people who are sensitive to smells. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel greasy at all, just nice and soft.

I’ve also switched my toothpaste from the standard drugstore offerings to Jason Natural's PowerSmile Whitening Toothpaste. I’m hooked. The consistency is slightly different from regular toothpaste: it doesn’t have a chalky feel to it. Commercials always promise that “fresh-from-the-dentist clean feeling” but the Jason Natural toothpaste is the first I’ve ever used that actually does give you that feeling all day long. This stuff is pretty impressive and I recommend it to people all the time.

SHP carries both of these, or you can find them at your local health and nutrition store, or even the natural products section of the supermarket.

Both Nature’s Gate and JASON Cosmetics have been verified by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics as cruelty-free, an independent group whose standard certifies that there has been no animal testing at any stage of product development.
