Looking for Healthy Recipe Ideas?

Many people in today's world look to celebrities or the media to tell them how something should be done. But I prefer sticking with the everyday person. When it comes to recipes, I know that there is a vast variety of information available on the Internet. Whether I'm looking for something delicious and nutritious for myself, or if I have to do some gluten free shopping for my step-brother, I know that the possibilities are endless on the Net.

While I've gone many places for recipes, including the Swanson Health Products Recipe Archive, my favorite site is the Iowa Girl Eats blog. Kristin, an avid foodie and runner, writes about her daily adventures of Midwest living with a humorous and inspiring twist. I could discuss the many ups and downs of Iowa weather or dead-on movie reviews that make her blog an entertaining read, but for the sake of this post I will stick to food.

I didn't realize how unhealthy my eating habits were until I started looking into what people like Kristin include in their diets. Fruits, vegetables, lean meats - I think you get the idea. Although she finds time to sneak in a little Reese's peanut butter cup now and again, she manages to come through with an A+ in the healthy meal department. She also reviews natural food products from time to time, which is always helpful.

She comes up with many clever recipes and food ideas, but I would have to say that her two specialties are the Kitchen Sink Salad and the Green Monster Smoothie. While these are fairly simple collections of ingredients, neither were something I would have thought of on my own. These two ideas have helped me put together delicious and nutritious meals when I don't have time for cooking.

Going down memory lane, the first recipe I made from the IGE site was the Lemon Tuna Noodle Casserole, and to this day it remains my favorite. I think it would be acceptable to use chicken if fish isn't your friend, but regardless I suggest that you try it. Just mentioning it here has made me convinced of what I'm having for dinner tonight - it's that good!

For me, the Iowa Girl Eats blog isn't about needing to follow a specific diet plan or exercise my heart out. What I take from the site is that you need to enjoy your life and the ones you love and just focus on living healthy and following positive practices when it comes to food and exercise. You don't have to be a slave to your health. It's okay to treat yourself. I hope that you will check out the site if you're looking for health tips, recipes or just want to enjoy a fun read.
