Daily Health Tips Update for Friday, October 29: There’s a very persistent myth out there that frightens women away from weight training. What is it? If you lift weights, you’ll gain weight and/or get bulky. Sure, if you stick to a strict lifting program that consists of hours in the gym day after day, you’ll likely add some bulk. But for most exercise and weight training programs, the lifting is included to simply keep your muscles strong to support your body structure. In fact, for women over 40 weight training is especially important to ward off osteoporosis and the overall loss of muscle mass. It’s also good for burning calories, which will help you maintain weight loss and keep you looking at your best (with no added bulk!).
