Mulberry and mulberry leaf extract are natural medicines that have been used for hundreds of years in traditional medicine. Ancient Chinese medicine claims mulberry has a healthy effect on the liver, and new studies show that regular use of mulberry leaf may help prevent or control Type 2 diabetes.
Clinical trials at the University of Minnesota revealed a reduction in the absorption of sugars and complex carbohydrates in humans, which helped stabilize blood sugar levels. Dr. Andrew Weil, an integrative medical practitioner, recommends taking one gram of mulberry before a meal and eating magnesium-rich foods such as leafy green vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids which are found in fish and fish oil supplements.
