Daily Health Tips update for August 18:
As we age, the tissues around our joints may stiffen, causing not only discomfort but also a feeling of “creakiness.” Being overweight ups the odds because every extra pound is equivalent to carrying an extra four pounds across your knees. So along with getting within a healthy BMI, you can also cut down on joint discomfort (and noise) by being more active. Your muscles help protect joints from wear and tear, so strengthening muscles can help joints. Do strength training exercise for 20 minutes at least twice a week, and stretch to relieve aches. Walking for 30 minutes five times a week at a speed fast enough to make you slightly out of breath can also help.
