We already know that getting a massage calms and relaxes us and may even help us sleep, but new research is showing that it may help bolster your immune system, too. Most people enjoy getting a massage when they’re stressed for the soothing, relaxing state it puts them in. But while it’s calming our mind, massages are revving up our immune systems.
A study published in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine found that when you get a Swedish massage, your stress hormones drop while cells that enhance immune response go up. Hormone and immune system markers in the blood showed that traditional Swedish massages boost your health. Just one massage can even help strengthen natural defenses, even if you’re not feeling sick or stressed out.
