3 Health Benefits of Juicing

Daily Health Tips update for August 8:

Believers in blending or juicing fresh fruit and vegetables have been touting its health benefits for decades. The good news: they’re right. Here are 3 health benefits of juicing:

1.  It is an easy way to get and absorb hydrating nutrients. Aside from vitamins A and C in fruit, leafy greens bring their high mineral content (including magnesium) to juice, providing an energy boost. Try combining two bunches of spinach or kale with 2 kiwis, 1 lime and a sprig of mint for a mineral-rich green drink.Beets

2. Athletes note it helps improve performance and recovery. Beet juice is all the rage—and with good reason. A study of cyclists “who drank beet juice or a placebo for six days found that those who drank the beet juice rode faster, cycled harder and used less oxygen during a 10K time trial.” To make your own beet juice, combine one pound of beets with 5 carrots.

3. It can help support your weight goals. Juice fasts are popular because they get results quickly, but it’s not something to do long-term. Your body needs protein to maintain muscle and keep your immune system up to par. So go for the green or vegetable juices when you fast.
