Food Dyes: A Rainbow of Risk

Wednesday, July 7, 2010 by Roxanne E.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest released a concerning study regarding a link between artificial dyes and hyperactivity in children, as well as allergies.

Take a close look at the food labels in your home.  Do you see ingredients such as Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6? You’d be surprised where you would find it. While some companies are turning to more natural ways to color foods and beverages, several companies still use artificial dyes.  They might make your food look nice, but they don’t add any value to the foods you are consuming.  Some companies are using natural colorings from things like berries, turmeric, pumpkins, carrots and beets.

The next time you are shopping, take the time to check the food labels for artificial dyes.  Most natural food products and quality nutritional health supplements will not contain any of these synthetic chemicals.  It may take some time to find a replacement, but the benefits will be well worth your time.
