About Alice Bast

Mrs. Alice Bast suffered for years with debilitating physical symptoms as well as multiple miscarriages and a stillbirth.  Numerous physicians told her she seemed fine, some even suggested she see a psychiatrist. Finally the 23rd doctor Alice visited diagnosed her with a 'rare' autoimmune disease called celiac sprue.

Bast dove into researching the condition and learned about the numerous problems that come from leaving the disease undiagnosed and untreated.  Further research revealed no known cure and limited resources toward research at the federal level. In 2003, Alice established the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness and has been a leader in promoting awareness of celiac disease to the government and across the country.
