Red Marine Algae has been shown to promote immune responses in animals. Historically, it's been consumed to promote lung and gastrointestinal health, probably because of the mucilaginous gel formed naturally by seaweed carrageenans and agar-agar. Sulfated polysaccharides, concentrated in the cell walls of red algae carrageenans, display immunomodulatory and cleansing properties. Swanson GreenFoods Formulas Red Marine Algae from Gigartina skottsbergii macroalgae has been standardized to no less than 30% kappa sulfa polysaccharides and 5% marine vegetable phenolics per capsule.
