Erythritol, a polyol (sugar alcohol), is a good-tasting sweetener which is suitable for a variety of reduced-calorie and sugar-free foods. It can be used as a sugar substitute in most sugar-free recipes. Erythritol has been part of the human diet for thousands of years due to its presence in foods such as pears, melons, grapes and mushrooms. NOW Erythritol is 100% pure and derived from a corn source. Erythritol resembles sugar in consistency and taste but has a caloric value near zero.

Erythritol 100% Pure Natural Sweetener 4.3 5 11 12
Erythritol I like using Erythritol in combination with favorite stevia extract powder (with no maltodextrin or fillers) to make up my own sweetener. It tastes very similar to a national name brand with a green color cap. I am still refining the formula, and most likely will add some vanilla bean for extra flavor. I do not have any digestive issues or BS issues when using Erythritol or blends. I haven't baked with this, but I have put it into whipped cream, non-bake cheese cakes, and other chicken/beef dishes that need sweetening. I have also used this to make jams and custards with no problem, after modifying how sweet I wanted the dish. March 11, 2012
Not what I expected I expected a taste like from xylitol. Not exactly the same but along the same lines. To me, this tasts more like the old artificial sweetener with all the aftertaste I do not like. Mabey I got a bad batch but to me it tasted awful with an aftertaste that hits you like a brick. I took one taste and through the rest away. I like the xylitol type sweetener better. November 3, 2011
Erythritol sweetener less than sweet I bought two 1 lb bags of Erythritol no-calorie sweetener, made from corn. I've tried several of the substitutes for sugar and Splenda, hoping to find a suitable one, but this is not one I'll go back to. For my taste, it is about 1/2 as sweet as white sugar, so it takes a lot to equal the same sweetness. It is very fine and dissolves quickly, has no strange after-taste, but I'll keep on my search. In the meantime, I'll stick with Truvia, made from the Stevia leaves, but it has an after-taste. September 27, 2011
Great sugar substitute I use this product as a substitute for sugar in my baking recipes. I use only 1/4 cup to replace 1 cup of sugar. Swanson has good prices. June 5, 2011
best price for powdered erythritol I have shopped around for the best price on erythritol and have found Swanson to be the most reasonable. Other places that sell erythritol online may appear cheaper, but by the time you add in their shipping rates they are more expensive plus they are granular not powdered. I use erythritol for baking because the taste is very good, and I like the fact that I do not need to powder the erythritol to use in recipes. April 20, 2011
Excellent taste It really does taste like sugar! Not quite as strong, what I've read says 60% as strong, but I find it a bit more, maybe 75%. There is a bit of a weird odor when the bag is first opened, but it goes away after a week. It doesn't come through in the taste. That is my biggest complaint. I don't know if it is an impurity that wasn't removed, or a break down product. I'm going on my trust of NOW brand that it isn't anything toxic... I use it to sweeten up grapefruit, blueberries, etc., and to make ice cream. It isn't very soluble in cold water. This means that if using it to make ice cream, you need to add the dry powder to the mix after it has started freezing, instead of dissolving it in the liquid at the beginning, or else you get big crystals. Also, you couldn't make cold "sweet tea" very sweet. I prefer this to xylitol because of lack of danger to dogs, and less chance of gastrointestinal upset. November 14, 2010
Great product, great deal! A great product at a great price,so much better than sugar! October 17, 2010
Erythritol I use this solely for morning coffee. "E" does not have the bitter aftertaste of Stevia, The one pound size is convenient to use but it takes a little more than other sweeteners to achieve the same effect. I am very satisfied with this product. September 5, 2010
Yum! Whether I am making cheesecakes or lattes, I use this almost exclusively. It gives me the right measure of sweetness without overpowering anything. Also I find that it dissolves better than other non sugar choices I have used in the past. June 27, 2010
Lots of Guilt-free Sweet for the Buck! This is a potent sweetener, and for all practical purposes free from calories, artificial and chemical components and the bitter after-taste of many types of both many variants of Stevia as well as the more common-place sugar-substitutes such as Nutra-Sweet, Easily dissolved in both cold and warm dishes and beverages. November 12, 2009
good value Swanson, as usual, has priced this product competetively; I'm glad they've started carrying it. Erythritol has a sugar-like flavor with no artificial aftertaste, but it is not as sweet as sugar. Using it in addition to a little stevia or other sweetener makes for a very natural-tasting sweetness in beverages. I haven't yet tried it for baking. September 29, 2009
